Apydan®Apydan® is an oxcarbazepine, a 10-keto analogue of carbamazepine. It is the first in a new class of high potential anti-epileptic agents. It is effective in treating partial seizures with or without secondary generalization, both in mono and add-on therapy. Oxcarbazepine has favorable pharmacological properties, both in efficacy and safety, compared to its precursor carbamazepine. Both oxcarbazepine and its metabolite elicit anticonvulsant activity.
AZO Test Strips®AZO Test Strips® are used to detect urinary tract infection (UTI). These are the same test pads used in many doctors' offices to determine if a UTI is present. The test can be taken safely at home, resulting in easy-to-read results in just two minutes. It tests for two, separate indicators at once - Leukocytes (white blood cells) and Nitrates - resulting in more information and higher accuracy.
ColistimethateColistimethate is indicated for the treatment of acute or chronic infections due to sensitive strains of certain gram-negative bacilli. It is particularly indicated when the infection is caused by sensitive strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This antibiotic is not indicated for infections due to Proteus or Neisseria. Colistimethate has proven clinically effective in treatment of infections due to the following gram-negative organisms: Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Colistimethate may be used to initiate therapy in serious infections that are suspected to be due to gram-negative organisms and in the treatment of infections due to susceptible gram-negative pathogenic bacilli. To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Colistimethate and other antibacterial drugs, Colistimethate is to be used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
Collatamp®Collatamp® is a lyophilized collagen implant impregnated with the aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin. Collatamp® is absorbed quickly and completely and it is not necessary to remove it. Collatamp® is used for surgical implant to treat or reduce the risk of surgical site infections. Collatamp® is also used for local haemostasis of capillary, parenchymatous and seeping haemorrhages in areas with a high risk of infection. High concentration of gentamicin are delivered directly to target tissue providing highly concentrated and localized antibiotic action while maintaining systemic levels well below the toxicity threshold. There are more than 40 clinical studies evaluating the performance of Collatamp®, either for treating localized infection or for preventing surgical site infections across a wide variety of surgical procedures. Collatamp® is marketed in Latin America under the following tradenames: Collatamp®
Infergen®Infergen® (interferon alfacon-1) is indicated for treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients 18 years of age or older with compensated liver disease. This indication is based on clinical trials conducted using Infergen® as monotherapy prior to the time that combination treatment was the standard of care and on a single trial evaluating Infergen® in combination with ribavirin in patients who failed to respond to previous treatment with a pegylated interferon and ribavirin. It may directly kill the virus, prevent the virus from reproducing, or alter the body’s natural defense against the virus.
Ipratropium Bromide and Albuterol SulfateIpratropium Bromide and Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Solution is indicated for the treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD in patients requiring more than one bronchodilator. Ipratropium Bromide and Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Solution is expected to maximize the response to treatment in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by reducing bronchospasm through two distinctly different mechanisms: sympathomimetic (albuterol sulfate) and anticholinergic / parasympatholytic (ipratropium bromide). Simultaneous administration of both an anticholinergic and a beta2-sympathomimetic is designed to produce greater bronchodilatation effects than when either drug is utilized alone at its recommended dosage.
Matulane®Matulane® (procarbazine) is indicated for use in combination with other anticancer drugs for the treatment of Stage III and IV Hodgkin’s disease as part of the MOPP (nitrogen mustard, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone) treatment regimen. Procarbazine was discovered in the late 1950′s during a search for monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors with less serious side effects. As early as 1962, clinical trials were reported describing procarbazine’s effectiveness in Hodgkin’s disease. Procarbazine is a unique antineoplastic agent with multiple sites of action. It inhibits incorporation of small DNA precursors, as well as RNA and protein synthesis. Procarbazine is not cross-resistant with other alkylating agents.
Nitrolingual®Nitrolingual® Pumpspray is indicated for acute relief of an attack or prophylaxis of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease. It works by dilating blood vessels in order to allow blood to flow more easily and reduce the heart’s workload and the amount of oxygen needed by the heart. It is a metered dose spray containing nitroglycerin. This product delivers nitroglycerin (400 mcg per spray, 60 or 200 metered sprays) in the form of spray droplets onto or under the tongue. At the onset of an attack, the medicine is administered sublingually with one or two metered sprays. Due to the large supply of blood vessels under the tongue, the medicine can be rapidly absorbed and provide rapid relief from the pain of an angina attack. Nitrolingual® can also be taken prophylactically prior to an anticipated activity that could cause an angina attack.
Nitronal®Nitronal®, is a glyceryl trinitrate solution for infusion. It is used only in hospitals for the following conditions:
- Severe unstable angina with angiospasm (in pre-infarction stage or in evolving infarction).
- Acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
- Acute pulmonary edema, associated with acute myocardial infarction.
- Acute left ventricular failure. Congestive heart failure, associated to AMI.
- Hypertensive crisis with cardiac decompensation. Catheter-induced coronary spasm.
S2®S2® Racepinephrine Inhalation Solution, USP 2.25% is a fast acting bronchodilator for the temporary relief of mild symptoms of intermittent asthma. It is used for:
- Temporary relief of shortness of breath, tightness of chest, and wheezing due to bronchial asthma.
- Temporary relief of bronchial asthma.
- Ease of breathing for asthma patients by reducing spasms of bronchial muscles.
VSL#3®VLS#3® is a medical food for the dietary management of irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, or an ileal pouch. It is a high potency probiotic consisting of 8 strains of live freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria. Each sachet contains at least 450 billion lyophilized lactic acid bacteria. VSL#3® works by colonizing the GI tract with optimal quantities and types of probiotic bacteria. These adhere to the walls of the GI tract and form a barrier against substances that cause intestinal inflammation.
