Case Study: Secondary Packaging & Labeling

Complex Blinding & Randomization Support for a Multi-Component Clinical Trial

500+ Kits. Full Traceability. Zero Supply Disruption.

The Challenge

A sponsor running a blinded, placebo-controlled trial needed active and matching placebo materials transformed into investigator-blinded study kits, with no visual or labeling cues that could reveal treatment assignment. The program demanded secondary labeling, randomization-driven kit assembly, custom configurations, and full component traceability, all while protecting the blind from manufacturing through distribution. As the trial progressed, kits still in inventory also needed shelf-life management and rework to keep supply uninterrupted.

Our Approach

Tanner managed the program end to end, replacing commercial labels with custom study labels on active and placebo materials to create identical, blind-preserving presentations. Kits were assembled against the sponsor's randomization schedule, each with a unique ID and the correct blinded configuration, using custom-sourced labels, cartons, and packaging built for efficiency. Controlled identification and assembly processes maintained full traceability without ever breaking the blind, while ongoing shelf-life extension and rework kept undistributed kits supply-ready.

The result: 500+ blinded clinical trial kits delivered and managed across the program's life.
